FAQ

How do stairlifts work?

Most stairlifts are made up of three main components: a rail, a carriage and a seat. The carriage of the stairlift contains the motor which powers the lift up and down the rail or track. The rail is normally made of Aluminium and fits directly onto the treads of the stairs (not the wall). The stairlift seat simply sits on top of the carriage and has the controls in the arms to safely send the stairlift up or down.

Are stairlifts noisy?

Battery run stairlifts use around 24 volts to power an electric motor; this makes them quiet and energy efficient to use. Your new stairlift will be quiet enough to use day and night without disturbing anyone else in the house.

How long does installation take?

The majority of stairlifts can be fitted in just a few hours with the minimum of disruption. As our stairlifts are fitted directly to the stair treads and not the wall the process becomes very quick and simple. A curved stairlift takes a little bit longer than a straight stairlift but can still be fitted within a day.

If I order a stairlift, how long until it can be fitted?

If you order a straight stairlift we will usually have it in stock and could even fit it the next day depending on the engineers diaries. If you require a curved stairlift we will have to order this in especially for you so that it fits your exact measurements, therefore installation time would usually be 14 to 28 days.

How will I learn how to use the stairlift?

Your installation also includes an in-depth demonstration of how to use your new lift and all comfort and safety features.

What kind of warranty is available on the stairlifts?

All our stairlifts have at least a 12 months warranty. We also offer service contracts which can be purchased for all new lifts and offer that extra piece of mind. For more information on our service contracts please click here

Can other people still use the stairs if a stairlift is fitted?

Yes. The stairlifts have a folding seat, footrest and arms, so when it's not in use it tucks neatly against the wall. It will also be parked at the top or bottom of the staircase allowing full access to the stair way.

If I have a narrow staircase will a stairlift still fit?

We have a wide variety of stairlifts which can accommodate the majority of staircases. We offer a FREE no obligation quote where the engineer will be able to access the suitability of your staircase.
